New Season Reflections
24th September 2025
As summer fades and autumn settles in, I always find myself feeling reflective. The end of summer has that bittersweet edge, after a long run of sun-drenched days, it's giving way to cooler mornings and earlier evenings. There’s been a definite back-to-school feeling in the air and the evenings are already noticeably darker. September always makes me feel like deep cleaning the house and getting organised. It’s a time of new beginnings and fresh energy, embracing the slower months and listening to the natural rhythm of my body at this time of year.
There’s something incredibly cathartic about starting a new collection at the turn of a new season. Autumn itself feels like a season of transformation; the changing colours, the cosy evenings spent with a cup of tea in front of the wood burner. Nature shifts in such a visible way right now and that connection is feeding directly into my work.
I love the fiery reds, burnt oranges and deep hues of autumn, coupled with that lower soft golden light, all of which bring a richness that sparks ideas and emotions. I find it comforting and it definitely helps restore a feeling of balance within me.
This process of creating my new collection already feels influenced by the seasonal change, as I embrace its slower energy and contrasts. After the chaotic, unpredictable feel of the summer holidays and a beautiful family break in Naxos, autumn is already starting to give me the grounding I need as I return to structure and routine.
It’s the season where I feel most connected to my creative self, a time for slow, steady work, hibernating at home and embracing my winter wardrobe!
A New Direction…
I know I touched on this briefly in the newsletter, but I really wanted to sit down and write about the new direction I’m moving in. Whether you’re a long-term collector and have been with me from the start, or you’ve recently joined me for the ride, you’ll have seen how my creative direction has evolved over recent years.
Maintaining the use of lettering throughout my work is crucial. I’m drawn to the shape of lettering, the timeless style of certain font types and word play is a huge part of my daily life and how I express myself. Through daily mantras, positive affirmations, and coaching myself through challenging days, I often lean on particular words or phrases, which ground me and bring me back to base - or simply get me through the day!
I'm continuing to develop the ‘half and half’ elements I explored in my most recent collection of originals, where I merge my lettering and floral imagery. I feel that our daily lives and the natural world merge and overlap all the time and there is so much magic in the everyday, when we take the time to look for it! My new body of work definitely feels like a visual representation of how I see the world.
I have LOVED delving deeper into this process. I know a big part of it has been since becoming a mother, but it's also my own natural evolution. I love using words that really resonate by weaving the curves of my lettering together with beautiful florals and birds. It feels natural and a depiction of the beauty of the world around us. I’m drawing on this heavily for my new collection of original pieces that I’ll be bringing to life over the coming months.
Finding Connection
I’m also very aware of the fluctuations in my energy and emotions and how they shape not only my life, but also my creative process. I think that’s why I love how nature changes so much at this time of year, I find it shows us exactly how to move more gently, naturally slow down and embrace rest. Being in nature every day is so important to me, it lifts my mood and brings an overall sense of calm to the everyday madness!
Over the next few months, I’ll be spending lots of quiet hours in the studio, creating each individual piece. I’ve purposely carved out the time and space to do this, as this part of the process always feels magical and I want to enjoy every moment.
My new collection really embodies this sentiment. I feel deeply connected to each one and I can’t wait to share little behind-the-scenes glimpses with you along the way, and of course, reveal everything properly closer to Christmas.
Here’s to a clean slate, a fresh season, and a studio filled with possibility.
Thanks so much for reading!
